The 690 is a fantastic engine but I hated the transmission and lack of steering when in the nasty stuff. Also adding fuel range is very expensive compared to 500. I’ve ridden Baja on my 950SE, 690 and four times on 500’s where we camp off the bikes and ride 1200+ miles.
Updates like a more balanced motor will make the 690 Enduro less vibey and more enjoyable to ride on the highway. Fuel capacity was bumped from 3.2 to 3.6 gallons, which should give the 690 Enduro just enough range to travel around 160 miles between fill ups (not far off the range of a thirsty carbureted KTM 950 Adventure).

The KTM 690 Enduro R is a 65 horse power bike that was built for reliability not necessarily performance. I'm not saying its performance is weak, on the contrary, it performs outstanding. This bike performs so well its first outing was to North Forty MX track in Sherman Texas where it did great. I put 12 miles on it.

This particular 690 Enduro is tuned by Solid Performance. The Good: Whether this bike is taking on highway blasts, cutting up single tracks and fire trails or wading through deep sand pits, it’s incredibly balanced. Power and torque seem endless, and there’s always enough twist no matter where you are in the rev range.
The 690 Enduro R espouses simplicity to its very core, and this can be seen with its extra features.
